What is Laufer Lane?(Before we get to the amazing loonies)

Laufer Lane is a little road in a small town in Northeast Pa. It's about 300 yards long through the woods. The first 15 feet or so is paved, then it turns to dirt and pot holes. Mostly pot holes. At the end are two odd buildings. The buildings used to be small barns and chicken coops. They were converted into apartments about 20 years ago. The building on the left has four apartment units. The first is two bedrooms, two floors. The next two units are one bedroom. The last is three bedrooms. The building on the right has three units. The first is two and 1/2 bedrooms (we'll get to how that is possible later) on two floors. The second unit is all upstairs, two bedrooms. The third unit is three bedrooms, all one floor. Each building looks like several small buildings put together with very little attempt to integrate the exteriors. There is a small grassy courtyard with cement walkways and very pretty lamp posts. ( The lamps only seem to be on during the day, for some bizarre reason.) Each unit has an area at the door to put out your patio table and grill. There are flowers and bushes. The parking lot is dirt, mud in the spring, in the summer dust, and in the winter a solid sheet of ice. Between the entrance and exit of the parking lot is a small grassy section with trees. The dumpster (or should we say the bear buffet?) is on a cement slab at one end of the parking lot. At the far end of the buildings is the remains of a very large wire fence that has been overgrown with vines. This encloses what was probably at one time a very large garden. Behind the building on the right is a small yard. This entire complex (such as it is) is surrounded by trees. There are houses pretty close though the trees, but there are usually hidden by the leaves on the trees. There are all kinds of birds and wildlife, and the neighborrhood is quiet and friendly (except for those Laufer Loonies). It is the kind of place that people describe as quaint, cute, or picturesque. It is also, as the rental maket goes in this area, very reasonably priced.
